Blogger's Quilt Festival 2010

Amy's Creative Side - Blogger's Quilt Festival

As some of you know - this quilt was made for a friend who is giving it to her sister-in-law for her first baby.  I had some requirements for this quilt.  I was to incorporate purple and green in the quilt in a prominent way.  This was a bit of a challenge as I wasn't sure my vision as an artist was matching up with the "client's" vision.

I did do a bit of growing with this quilt.  I learned to trust my instincts a little more and even though I may be commissioned to make a quilt with some parameters, I'm first and foremost an artist.  This is my work and I have to make quilts that are my personal aesthetic, my brand.  And it's okay to give choices instead of taking orders.  I pushed for a softer version of what my friend wanted and gave her choices that I felt good about.  In the end, she agreed with me and is very excited to see the finished quilt.

I had so much fun making this, even with my struggles.

Thank you Amy for organizing this fabulous festival!  It's great to see so many quilters participating and supporting each other.

The back - featuring the green and purple!

I could just eat this orange binding.

  1. I colori sono meravigliosi!
    Ciao Domenica

  2. Your friend is soooo lucky she asked you to make this quilt. The design,colors and quilting are all fabulous! I'm sure you created a quilt that will be loved for many years.

  3. String knot ROCKS! Love the way this came together---adore your orange binding!! Not to worry about the fold in your fabric on the other. Everyone experiences that, unless an amazingly talented long arm quilter is working the magic.

    For the DIYers, it happens. Repeatedly.
    LOL =)
    Best Wishes, Heather
