I'm pretty fascinated by applique - the modern, chunky kind that looks almost Dr. Suess-ish. I've been lusting after this:
Flower Garden by Kim McLean. It's. So. Delicious. The colors, the whimsy, the historical elements - sigh. I love this so, so, so much.
However, I'm not up to this speed yet. I have...uh...avoided learning how to do good applique, especially hand applique. I'm taking a class, though, because I promised Kathy Doughty I would. But until then....
The flowers were fun and quick to make - they came from my scrap bins. They are set on a creamy muslin that I think I'll quilt heavily. I zig zag stitched them on. It looks kinda messy and very homemade, which is exactly what I wanted. Can't wait to work on this a little more!
And I've been busy with other stuff, too. My daughter swims and does a play every summer. This year's play is Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She's Asher, one of Joseph's brothers. Have I mentioned my girl can sang? Between her practices, meets, guitar lessons and her social life - I feel like I never have a second to myself! And I have 2 other kids to parent. Whew. I need a vacation.
