Dresses for Africa

My blog friend Jenn did a post awhile back about making dresses for a charity that sends them to girls in Africa.  I love this idea! I went to the website and saw the beautiful faces of the girls in handmade pillowcase dresses and I knew I had to make some. I have pillowcases as well as yardage in my stash that I knew I would probably never use, so I dug out enough fabric for 6 or 7 dresses and got to sewing.

I've finished one and am in various stages of completion with the others. So excited to send these out to those sweet little souls halfway around the world!

Here's the link in case you or someone you know would be interested in making dresses!

  1. What a lovely idea... Thanks for the link!

  2. I *love* this. Charity sewing that is not a quilt...and that I can do. Awesome. I definitely have some fabric that could use a good home.

  3. Hi. Thrilled that you are doing work for girls in Africa!! They need so much. I recently learned that girls in Africa miss as much as 9 weeks a year from school because of, well, you guessed it, menstruation. There are organizations accepting homemade, sewed cloth pads. And instructions on how to make the pads: http://tinyurl.com/3tlhdcc
Don't mean to spam, but you do beautiful work and it's a good cause! Thanks, Carrie
