Word of the Year

mox·ie:

1. vigor; verve; pep.

2. courage and aggressiveness; nerve.

3. skill; know-how.

I don't do resolutions. Mainly because my attention span can't really handle that kind of commitment. Studies show that over 80% of people who make new year resolutions abandon them by mid-February. I much prefer not to be a statistic, unless it's something of the fabulous kind.

Last year I started my own personal tradition of adopting a word that embodies an idea or mindset of how I want to live, how I want to be.  Last year it was BRAVE and I have to say that I took some risks and pushed myself and it made a difference in things like relationships, career and my faith.

So this year, I need to be more specific, more focused. Moxie is sort of similar to brave, but it's really meant as the next step in a habit of being brave. Moxie, for me, means that bravery is not enough - it's a calling to be assertive, diligent and fiercely intelligent.

What's your word?

  1. Andie I just found your blog after seeing the comment on the Moda bakeshop, which made me giggle! I've had a look around and love your blog! You have great taste and I love your makes. I also had a proper laugh, which is nice! Loving your word, mine would be mischievous (I think it always is). Happy 2012!

  3. My word is change. I'm going for some big changes this year. Change is a scary word for me but it's time for some. I'm nervous but excited too. CHANGE!
