The Book

It's available for pre-order on Amazon.

It ships at the end of September.
It's in stores in October.
Kelly and I will be at Quilt Market in October to schlep it.
We've been working on this thing for over a year.
I want it out already!!!

In other news, I've been missing around these parts this summer. I'm kinda blogged-out right now. I don't really have anything interesting to say and I haven't been sewing much lately.

I have a new job. I didn't want a new job. But we have teenagers who play expensive sports and take expensive music lessons and we need another car. So mama had to get a job.

I work at Cincinnati Children's Hospital on the cancer unit. I'm still adjusting to the vibe here. I wanna cry everyday, all day. I can't really talk about what I do or the patients and families that I see. Breaks my heart watching these mommies and daddies see their babies go through such an ordeal. But they're being treated by world-class practitioners here, so it's not all bad.

I hope that my kids starting school this week will help me get back to more of a routine. I was away on vacation last week and for the first time in a long time, I was inspired to sew and sketch. I've had a creative block for a few months and I think it lifted after getting out of town and seeing some cool stuff.

So what's in store for me over the next few months? Well, I've gotta get my hiney in gear and start the self-promo game. Gotta sell some books. I loathe pimping myself. Makes me feel dirty. But, I've been watching marginally-talented people in this quilt game get mass exposure just by using social media. It's like taking NyQuil when you're sick: you know it's gonna pay off, but boy howdy does it feel nasty going down.

More soon. Promise.

  1. How AWESOME!! Get out there and sing about this baby from the rooftops. You WROTE A BOOK!

I'm going to tell everyone I know I have a friend that wrote a fabulous quilting book and making them all buy it. So there ....

    Congrats on a huge accomplishment!

  2. So how would we go about getting an autographed book?? Not every day one of your blog buddies writes a book! The cover look fantastic, by the way.

  3. SPEECHLESS!!!! Can't wait to see it up close and personal. Congrats!

  4. How exciting for you to have your book on Amazon!!! If I can help in any way let me know (though you know I loathe pimping myself I will gladly pimp YOU).

Your job sounds like an emotional doozy, but rewarding. Don't forget to recharge your batteries, my friend!

  5. Two things... congrats on the book... and pimp away! It's a business dear, and that's all a part of it. I'm so excited for you and Kelly on this! I can't wait to read and devour the book!

Secondly, please don't be sad, you are at the forefront of hope and modern day miracles. that is very much something for the common good.

From what I know of you, you seem to a wonderful sense of compassion. Sounds like a good match.

    Missing my Cinci peeps!

  6. Congrats. And we should talk sometime. I think we share oodles of the same opinions...

  7. The cover looks amazing!!! Am off to pre-order IMMEDIATELY!!! Do hope you get your "mojo" back... Have missed you...

  8. Hi Andie, I'm just catching up on my blog reading after being on vacation...I was just thinking about how I've missed your blog...and then here you are...with such exciting news! I can't wait to see your book...am so proud of you...can't wait to get my hands on a copy!
You sound like you need a 'girls night out', my friend.
    Wish I lived close by!

  9. OMIGOSH! I missed this earlier... that cover is GORGEOUS! This thing is gonna sell sell sell. When do you get your advanced copies? I'm seriously making that quilt on the cover...I'm so excited for you! I want it now! RIGHT NOW!!!

  10. Congrats Andie! Glad it's almost here and can't wait to check it out :)

  11. Yeah!!!!! So so so happy for you, Andie! Love the cover and can't wait to see the book. You and Kellie are both so talented, I'm sure you've got some great projects in there. Maybe I'll see you at Children's sometime. We're there every week. Don't be sad at your job. The parents need strong caregivers for their little ones. Think of it as a miracle unit because it is--it helps them to get rid of a deadly disease. What are you doing there?

  12. Followed your link from Sew Many Ways and here I am.

Great blog, I'm so glad I found it!

The cover of your book is very inviting! I side with Michelle above, how can I get an autographed book?

You are right about social media, it's a great advantage for marketing. And Facebook is a great way to let your extended friends and family your good news-- You wrote a book! And it's PUBLISHED! They are 'pre-qualified' buyers, they already like you and want to see you suceed!

Now get out there and sing it from your rooftop, Sister!

  13. Don't know how I just saw this post now! Anyway, I can't wait to see the new book. How fun for you.

And the job...I can't even watch the commercials on TV. What a great opportunity for you to be Jesus with skin for those families and little people!

  14. Love the quilt on the cover. I am a fan of log cabin quilts.

  15. Andie - HUGE congratulations on your upcoming book! It looks wonderful!!

And your job...wow, I'm so glad there are people like you that have the compassion to work in the most heartbreaking of fields. I'm sure the families you deal with each day appreciate you. **hugs**

  16. Congratulations!
It is hard work to get out there and schtup for yourself, but it is worth it when you start getting emails, photos, and more from people inspired by your work.
